We have a range of impressive industrial-scale facilities and specialist equipment to fulfil your organisation's testing needs across a range of industries, including offshore, water, marine, aerospace, thermal and energy. In addition to the option of hiring many of our facilities and equipment for on-site use, we can also offer processing, experimental and analysis services; upskilling for researchers through the receipt of training on our facilities; and, through collaborative research projects, the opportunity for researchers to work alongside each other in conducting experiments. Advanced Materials: Engineering and Industrial Applications MSc The discovery, development and application of advanced materials is at the heart of engineering innovation. Informed by our close research collaborations with industry we are developing the next generation of talented materials scientists and engineers. With a fundamental interest in materials science, the MSc in Advanced Materials: Engineering and Industrial Applications course will develop your understanding of materials’ properties, selection, processing and advanced design procedures. This course equips students with the knowledge and skills to solve a wide range of engineering challenges. The progressive subject of additive manufacturing is introduced and investigated in the Advanced Materials Processing Technologies module. The quest for stronger, lighter, more durable materials is discussed in the Composites Design, Manufacturing and Applications module and the Materials Selection and Design module. Our ability to modify materials to function in aggressive environments is presented in the Engineering of Nano and Functional Materials module and the Industrial Applications of Advanced Materials module. Every engineer needs to recognise that resources are finite, and the impact materials and manufacturing can have on the ecosystem. The Materials for a Net Zero Future module identifies some of the current challenges and some strategies to avoid catastrophe.

Entry Requirements

A UK first or second class undergraduate degree with honours, as a minimum, or equivalent international qualification. Ideally applicants will have studied in a relevant science, engineering or related discipline. English language To study for a formal award at Cranfield you will need to demonstrate that you can communicate effectively in English in an academic environment. IELTS IELTS Academic, IELTS Online and IELTS for UKVI Academic1 (we also accept IELTS One Skill Retake tests) - 6.5 overall and 5.5 in all skill components. TOEFL TOEFL iBT (we accept both the TOEFL iBT and TOEFL iBT Home Edition tests) - score scales for TOEFL tests changed from 21 January 2026:
